Department of OB/GYN and Women's Health

OBGYN Residency Program

Our four-year, ACGME-accredited program prepares residents for independent practice as generalists or subsequent training in a subspecialty. Our residents rotate through our busy labor floor at Jack D. Weiler Hospital and gain GYN exposure at multiple clinical sites. Residents gain surgical experiences in both their inpatient rotations and their outpatient ambulatory surgery rotations. Residents are also exposed to subspecialty practices in REI, Urogynecology, Gynecology Oncology, MFM, and MIGS.

Hear from our residents

I knew immediately that Montefiore was where I wanted train. I really feel that the residents and faculty at Montefiore are here with the conscious intention of making a difference in the lives of our patients. It's a rewarding experience being able to work hard alongside people who have also chosen the program for the high acuity and diverse patient population of the Bronx.

- Lauren Cosgriff, PGY-4

Montefiore stood out to me for providing excellent training informed by the social context of the Bronx community that we serve. I realized that this program would allow me to develop high-quality clinical skills and surgical competence while gaining a better understanding of the systemic factors that influence the health of our patients. I am confident that this program will prepare me well to pursue a general or sub-specialty path and advocate for greater equity in reproductive healthcare.

- Rosie Bleck, PGY-3

I chose Montefiore because of its commitment to bringing the highest-quality academic medicine to the patients of the Bronx. I also knew it was the program that would make me into exactly the Ob/Gyn I hope to become. Senior residents are skilled and confident surgeons, patient and thoughtful teachers, and compassionate clinicians. I feel lucky to be training in a place where clinical excellence, patient advocacy, and strong resident camaraderie are all valued so highly.

- Kevin Flatley, PGY-2

Live and work close to the best of everything

The Bronx, New York City’s northernmost borough, is a culturally rich neighborhood placed at the intersection of Manhattan and its surrounding regions. Our trainees typically live in hospital housing or off-site in the Bronx or Manhattan.

In the Bronx, with its ample parks and gardens, you’ll learn first-hand why it’s known as “the City’s Greenest Borough.” The neighborhood offers plenty of local food, art, sports and culture, and is just a subway ride away from Manhattan’s famed theaters, museums and attractions.

As a resident of the Tri-State region, you’ll have unmatched access to the city’s cultural offerings, not to mention the bounty of outdoor excursions that are available just beyond. Day-trips and weekend excursions to the Hudson Valley, Catskills, Long Island or New Jersey provide ample opportunities for swimming, hiking, biking, skiing and other seasonal activities.
